Executive Committee report at the Fall 2008 User Group Meeting. This report contains highlights on major issues throughout the year, including investigating Aleph Version 19, open source ILS alternatives, marketing opportunities for MnPALS Plus Discovery, a needs assessment to operationalize the strategic plan, and governance structure.
Move to combine the categories of Community College and Technical Colleges within the membership paragraph, yet retain four total members for the combined category. (moved to amend the motion, to drop it for this month.) Robbie LaFleur will draft the new language, to be approved by the Executive Committee at the February meeting. Final authorization could take place at the Annual Meeting. Motion to ask the User Council to come up with a proposal for a new User Group structure by the February meeting.
2008-10 User Group Meeting Welcome and PALS Report
Description
Report by PALS Executive Director for the Fall 2008 User Group Meeting. Covered the new user group format, available breakouts, workdays, site visits, improving services, open source options, Aleph Version 18, Aleph Version 19, MnPALS Plus, WorldCat Local, Koha, Evergreen, Discovery team, and the strategic plan.
Agenda items include sessions on copyright issues in higher education, MnPALS Plus version 2, Web-Scale Discovery, RDA changes affecting record display in OPAC/MnPALS Plus, SubjectsPlus, and online library instruction.
The 2011 PALS Report focused on Aleph subsystems, updates to PALS products and services (EZproxy, MnPALS Plus, PALSconnect Linker, PALSconnect ERM, Evergreen), and current activities of task forces and office teams. Highlights include global changes to bibliographic records to reflect new MARC standards and testing Aleph version 21 before Consortium-wide implementation.
2011-10 User Group Meeting Futures Interest Group Report
Description
The report lists the FIG meetings that took place from fall 2010 to fall 2012. Topics discussed include federated vs. aggregated search, eXtensible Catalog, legal issues with e-books and e-readers, mobile access to library resources, and digital asset management.
2012-10 Reference and Instruction User Group Meeting Minutes and Agenda
Description
Topics discussed include the mobile version of MnPALS Plus, LibData and LibStats, and elections: Pam Sukalski (Southwest Minnesota State University for State Universities; Jim Parsons (St. Ben’s/St. John’s) for Private Colleges and Universities; Lisa Forslund (North Hennepin Community College) for a 1-year term, and Jennie Simning (Hennepin Technical College-Brooklyn Park) for a 2-year term for the MnSCU Two-year Colleges.
Motion passed: That the MnPALS Strategic Plan dated December 2006, be reviewed by all Executive Committee members before the next quarterly meeting and discussed as an agenda item at the November meeting.
